WinMPlayer

main

This is WinMPlayer - Movie Player for Win32 1.0pre7 - now with GUI! Please be aware that there is development going on, and soon it might be wise to replace the mplayer.exe with a newer release. To keep the package as small as possible, at the moment I do not include the mencoder.exe, necessary for encoding. I have included the docs. Read them carefully!

In the main installation directory you will also find the man_page.html: refer to this if you want to know how to use MPlayer… ;-)

You can now choose between two ways of installing WinMPlayer:

  1. as a command-line program (the way it always was)
  2. with a GUI

If you choose no GUI, the simplest way of using MPlayer is to drag and drop a file you want to listen to or see, on the WinMPlayer icon on your desktop - later you might want to associate some file extensions with your MPlayer…

If you have chosen the GUI installation, the desktop icon will open a simple GUI from which you can easily open the desired files - nevertheless the new WinMPLauncher offers the same drag & drop functionality of an installation without GUI! In the WinMPLauncher configuration, you can disable this behaviour.

The complete installation package contains:

You can also read the HOWTO, which gives a description of what the installer does - so you can do it yourself manually…

more

For details on the program and for UNIX/Linux versions check out the MPlayer homepage - somewhere else there is also a project maintaining MPlayer OS X.

For technical questions on the MPlayer for Windows, please join the MPlayer-cygwin mailing list: it was originally conceived for the cygwin port, but now hosts all discussions for the Win32 version as well.

This latest build has also vidix support - but to get it working, you'll need to download the latest build directly from the MPlayer Homepage and install the drivers. Before doing so, read the instructions and cautions CAREFULLY!

My installer releases always closely follow the latest binary release of the CVS Mingw Windows Beta Build.

If you need more codecs check out the codecs location.

There are some more projects maintaining MPlayer installer packages for Win32, either using cygwin or mingw:

Additionally there have been some efforts recently to implement a GUI in the Windows builds, either as an external add-on, or distributed bundled with the player - my installer includes the first one:

Many thanks to Christianroessler.net who kindly offered to mirror the download page with the downloads. This is a big relieve, as I was constantly fighting with broken bandwidth! Many thanks to Frank Stöckl as well, who also was mirroring the download.
